    The Supervisory Retirement Committee is an unaffiliated fraternal organization that was formed more than 59 years ago. 

    It began when a small group of supervisors got together and organized a dinner to wish their peers a happy retirement.  As the years went by the dinner grew in size; the Supervisory Retirement Committee was formed. 

    By doing this, all member retirees received a little send-off for their years of service, rather than just a select few who may have been among the more popular or well known supervisors.  Membership is made up mostly of dispatchers; other supervisory titles and managers in Surface are also part of the committee.  

    The dinner grew still larger in size and the annual dues was assessed to help fund the affair.  Also, once a year, raffles are sold to help offset the costs. Dues are presently $10 every two years (5 dollars a year!). 

    When a member retires, that person receives a miniature badge, a check for up to $50.00 (based on dues status), a scroll for their years of service, and the dinner itself. 

    All of the work for the dinner is done by the executive committee, which consists of 20 members who host the affair, arrange seating, sell tickets and raffles and do all of the other work necessary for a successful evening.  They also keep in touch with past retirees through an address directory and direct mailing.  All work is strictly volunteer;  this is a non-profit organization. 

    Each year we invite a few guests to attend the dinner and share the evening with our honorees and past retirees.  About 250 people attend, of which about 50 are past retirees.  We also invite some of the unions and associations on the property to attend.  We ask our guests to assist us in handing out the awards to the honorees.
